The Evolution of a Phenomenon is often marked by distinct phases.

1. The Big Idea

An inspiring figure or leaders propose an innovative concept that promises a panacea for alienated and vulnerable people.

And so it goes. They’re getting ready to challenge the establishment in Australia. The gunships are circling. Signs of trouble appear from the out-houses. But we know what it is. It’s the player attempting a move so depraved it’s beyond belief. It’s the adrenaline of the captain in his final form, an expression conveying: pensive Nordic god, strong features, untamed style, truly contemporary you half-expect to notice and find him positioned on the ground stripped to the waist and cradling a wild salmon.

It’s the opener continuing to have permission to talk in press conferences, appearing as a happy little woodland creature smartly dressed, uttering phrases such as we’re breaking down traditions. And yes, the atmosphere, for a significant period, was uplifting.

3. Expansion Period

Building period. Togetherness strengthened by rote learning of the cult’s slogans. These beliefs can appear contradictory to prove commitment.

Does anyone else feel? The reaction, the fury, the sense of betrayal post-defeat feels overblown, overdone. England batted badly in Perth, as they often do in Australia.
